New Windows & Water Heater

I know the combination of new windows and a water heater is not the norm. But one week after my new windows were installed, I came home to the sound of water running in the garage. Luckily, the water heater is in the garage. More on that in a minute.
Here is a picture of the "before" of the front of the house. It was morning and sunny so it's kind of shadowed.
Here is a close up of the front windows. Before.During....After.Before of one of the bedroom windows.and after. And a new patio door. The old one was so wrong I am surprised it lasted as long as it did. The old door (or should I say doors) was a sliding door then another sliding door right behind it. This fact bewildered everyone that came to look at my windows, no one had ever seen such a sight. But no more a pretty white new one now stands in their place. Here is the house with the new windows and storm door on the front. Before we get to the water heater, I bought a cool old record player/ radio cabinet to put my tv on. Bonus! it fit in my car to take it home.
I absolutely love it. It goes really well in my house.
The before of the really old water heater. I only hope the new heater lasts 20 years like this one did.
Unfortunately, it was really cold in the garage that night. My Dad brother, David came to help install the heater. The new one was really heavy and hard to hold on to with gloves.

David is wondering how he always get himself involved in these projects of mine. It's because he loves his sister and the free meal that came with helping (free food is the real reason).
Getting ready to sweat the joints. That involves a propane torch, and with David always wanting to play with fire that was right up his alley.
Finishing touches.
Hot water in December is nothing to take for granted.

Backsplash Installed!

It only took two years to decide what kind of backsplash I wanted in my kitchen. There in the aisles of Lowe's, is was waiting for me. I first brought one panel of the material home to make sure this was it, and it was. Even though, I had found the material the money had not yet found its way into my pocket. Christmas and my birthday brought some very special gifts and now the funds are ready.

Jeff from Homeworks Unlimited came and installed the new backsplash. I am loving it.

Here is a before shot,
And here it is! This is the material.
One quarter of the way!
Done! Great Job, Jeff.

Thanksgiving 2010

Thanksgiving Day I had a pipe break in the yard. We decided not to report it just yet because it was early and we still needed the water. So the next day the city came out and fixed it. You might remember last year a pipe broke and this time it was no more that 10 feet from the previous break. If this keeps up, I will have a great looking yard. Every time the city comes back and fix it with new sod.
Patch on the pipe underground.

Turkey... check! This is turkey #2 cooked in my kitchen and he turned out great.Deviled Eggs... check!
Pumpkin pie... check!Pecan pie ... check! This is my first attempt to Pecan pie. I went the easy way and crunched up the pecans.Table set... check! Bring on the masses.

Spring!!!!!

Well, I hope Spring has finally sprung! After a freakish snowstorm two weeks ago, today it's 80 degrees outside.

Yesterday, I got my mowing duds on and went outside. I opened the garage door, drug out the mower and what do you know but after I strained every muscle in my body, pulling on the string, it would not start. So, I drug the mower back in the garage, closed the garage door and changed my clothes. Got in the car and drove to Lowe's where they have a nice selection of brand new mowers. So, one accompanied me home. I got it out of the box and raised the handle, put the gas in and the oil too. I don't think I have ever used a brand new mower. I pulled the string so hard it hit bottom and jerked out of my hand and wrapped around the handle. I thought to myself "in the future, don't pull so hard."

So, my yard got mowed after all.

Hopefully, soon I can remove my interior doors and give them doorknobs and paint. Also, give my house a nice new coat of trim paint and fix some of the siding.

I am thinking of planing a little garden for tomatoes, squash, and peppers. I am really not the farmer type so I don't know if this is a good idea or not. But maybe worth a try.

Christmas!

It has been awhile since I have put anything here. Just not alot going on as far as construction or remodel now. I am hoping in the Spring things will get moving again. So, for now here is some pictures of Christmas and snow and my car getting stuck on Christmas Eve, two house away from my front door.
